Assembling the Robot Chassis

Building the mechanical frame and organizing batteries and motors.

Your robot needs a solid frame. The most important thing is weight distribution and cable management. We use an L298N driver to power the two wheels. Lithium 18650 batteries (total voltage 7.4V to 8.4V) are connected to the 12V terminal on L298N. Then we take a wire from the 5V output on L298N to power the Arduino! With one battery pack, we power the entire system.

Wiring Notes

Beware of reversing the battery polarity on L298N — it will burn instantly. And don't forget to connect the GND between L298N and Arduino.

Common Mistakes

Placing sensors or Arduino directly on top of the L298N driver — the driver's heat sink gets very hot and may melt wires or plastic.
