History of AI: From Dream to Reality

1950s — The Beginning and the Big Question

1950: Alan Turing posed his famous question: "Can machines think?" and proposed the Turing Test still used today.

1956: Dartmouth Conference — the term "Artificial Intelligence" was officially born. Expectations were sky-high: solve all the world's problems in one generation!

1970s–80s — The First and Second Winters

Early projects failed when confronted with the real world. The problem: computing was too slow and data was scarce.

• 1974–1980: First AI Winter — funding dried up completely
• 1987–1993: Second AI Winter — expert systems collapsed commercially

1990s–2000s — Gradual Rise

2017: "Attention is All You Need" paper — the Transformer architecture is born. The architectural parent of every LLM today.

2020s — The Era of Large Models
